On-grid, hybrid or off-grid — what's actually different

On-Grid (Grid-Tied)

Connected to the WAPDA grid, no batteries. Extra power your panels generate exports back to the grid under net metering, which lowers your bill. Because it's tied to the grid, the system shuts off automatically during a power cut — that's a safety requirement, not a fault.

Best fit: areas with light or occasional load-shedding, where you mainly want a lower bill rather than backup power.

Hybrid

Grid-tied and still net-metered, but with battery backup added in. Your home or business keeps running through a WAPDA outage instead of going dark with it. This is what most homes and businesses in Pakistan end up needing once load-shedding is a regular part of the day.

Best fit: anywhere outages happen often enough that losing power actually disrupts your day.

Off-Grid

No grid connection at all — solar and battery cover the full load on their own. Built for tube wells, farms and sites where WAPDA infrastructure isn't practical or available.

Best fit: agricultural sites and locations genuinely disconnected from the grid.
